SPRING/SUMMER 2026

Moving Away

Moving Away

A cardboard box fell

through miles of endless sky.

Carrying trumpet flowers, a steaming block

of dry ice,

another human being.

I hurt my back trying to carry

a falling cardboard box,

while falling.

In the back of the building are cardboard boxes carrying springtime,

narcissus blooming,

four o’ clocks. Someone always leaves a cardboard box behind.

A cardboard sky shouts while falling, Why

must I wait here with my eyes wide open?

Every day I’m alive, my eyes

open wider. I see

another one left behind.

Blue skies lay crushed by disaster. Laughter’s

pale teardrop dripped

through the sky’s voluminous skirt.

It saw me staring

so even a teardrop moved away.

I’m carrying a block of flowers so I keep walking.

I keep on hunching over while falling.

My delicate description of a cardboard box

plummeting down

through meters of sky.
